The Rapid City Rush, the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced the addition of forward Deagan McMillan to its roster for the 2026‑27 season. The move underscores the club’s intent to bolster its offensive depth with a player who has already proven his ability to lead a junior team.
McMillan arrives after five years of junior hockey, the bulk of which was spent with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League. During his final season with the Vipers he served as captain, guiding the side to a strong finish while posting 21 goals and 120 penalty minutes in 42 games.
His offensive output reached 42 points, placing him second on the team in scoring, and his physical style of play added a defensive edge that coaches value. The 21‑year‑old also accumulated a reputation for clutch performances in high‑pressure moments.
Prior to his return to the B.C. league, McMillan spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League, where he refined his skating and playmaking skills against older competition. That experience, combined with his leadership background, made him an attractive prospect for the Rush.
A strategic fit for the Rush
The Rush’s management believes McMillan’s blend of speed, grit, and offensive instincts aligns perfectly with the team’s tactical philosophy. Coach noted that the forward’s willingness to forecheck and create turnovers will complement the existing forward group and provide depth scoring.
Fans can expect to see McMillan integrated into the lineup during the preseason, where his impact will be measured both on the scoresheet and in the locker room.
