Rushford Legion Baseball Secures State Tournament Berth
The Rushford Legion Baseball team captured the Division 2 Sub‑State Championship on Tuesday, earning a place in the state tournament for the third time in just four seasons. The victory over La Crescent was sealed in dramatic fashion, as the squad rallied in the late innings to take the lead.
Cayden Lea was the catalyst, delivering an RBI double that scraped the left‑field wall and drove in the decisive run. His hit not only shifted momentum but also underscored the team’s resilience under pressure.
Key Performances Drive the Victory
Pitcher Elias Johnson, who will make his first appearance at the state level, described the upcoming tournament as “one of the best experiences of my life.” His composure on the mound throughout the playoffs has been a cornerstone of the team’s success.
Infielder Jonah Bunke, a four‑year veteran of the program, expressed joy at the prospect of sharing the field with his teammates once more. “It’s a special feeling to see all the hard work pay off together,” he said.
Looking Forward to the State Tournament
The State Tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 30, and the Rushford squad is already plotting a run at the championship. With a blend of seasoned leaders and fresh talent, the team is focused on translating their sub‑state triumph into a state title.
