Captains Named for 2026 Season
Rutgers' women's soccer program announced that Olivia Bodmer and Gabriela Gil will serve as captains for the upcoming 2026 campaign, continuing a leadership structure that proved effective in the previous year.
Bodmer, a senior goalkeeper, brings the most extensive collegiate experience among the roster, having appeared in 56 matches over five seasons. Her career numbers include 210 saves and five shutouts, yielding a 77.1% save percentage that ranks among the program's best.
Gil, who overcame a significant injury to return to action in 2025, started every match she played and logged full 90‑minute performances against Maryland and Michigan. Her impact was evident in two assists that helped secure wins over Ohio State and Minnesota.
Opening Match Details
The Scarlet Knights will begin the 2026 schedule on August 13 when they travel to face Tennessee. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on SECN+, marking the first test of the new leadership duo.
Coach Mike O'Neill expressed confidence in the pair, noting that Bodmer's consistency and Gil's resilience provide a solid foundation as the team looks to build on recent successes.
Both captains have previously worn the armband, with Bodmer holding the role for three straight seasons and Gil having captained the squad in 2025, underscoring a continuity of leadership that the coaching staff believes will benefit the team's chemistry on and off the field.
