A Boost for the Scarlet Knights
Mervedi Miteo, a 17‑year‑old power forward from the Congo, has signed with Rutgers for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, adding a rare blend of size and skill to the program.
After spending the spring with Draemland Gran Canaria in Spain’s Liga ACB, Miteo appeared in eight games and began to carve out a role in a league known for its competitive frontcourt talent.
His stint in Spain also gave him exposure to the under‑22 circuit, where he posted averages of 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, numbers that hint at a player still developing but already productive.
Miteo also earned minutes with Congo’s senior FIBA World Cup squad, contributing 5.7 points and 4.7 rebounds across three appearances and gaining international experience that complements his club work.
The commitment brings the Scarlet Knights to a full roster of 16 scholarship players, a mix of returning veterans, transfers and international recruits that shapes a deep and versatile squad.
The roster will be missing Dominican Republic guard Lewis Duarte, who remains sidelined by eligibility concerns, leaving a spot that Miteo is expected to fill with his physical presence.
Coaches have highlighted the forward’s ability to stretch the floor and battle in the paint, traits that should help Rutgers compete in the Big Ten and beyond.
