A New Vision for Scarlet Knights Football
During a recent meeting, Rutgers athletic director Keli Zinn and university president William Tate outlined a comprehensive plan to elevate the gameday atmosphere at SHI Stadium. Their conversation centered on reducing traffic bottlenecks that have long frustrated fans traveling to games in New Jersey.
Zinn explained that the university has overhauled traffic patterns around the venue, enlisting traffic engineers and local experts to redesign ingress and egress routes. The goal is to create a smoother flow for vehicles and reduce wait times for supporters arriving by car or public transit.
Streamlining Traffic and Enhancing Fan Assistance
A key component of the redesign is a dedicated help team that will be reachable by phone or text during games. This team will guide fans to available parking, direct them to the nearest entrances, and address any on‑site concerns in real time.
Tate praised the behind‑the‑scenes work of P.J. Mullen, whose efforts have already made a noticeable difference in the stadium’s ambience. The president highlighted Mullen’s role in crafting a more engaging environment for spectators.
Building Community Through Tradition
Beyond logistics, Tate emphasized the cultural significance of football at Rutgers, noting his own tailgate tradition, "Touchdown with the Tates," which brings together influential alumni and community members. These gatherings, he said, are vital for fostering relationships that extend beyond the stadium.
