Rutgers University has confirmed the acquisition of Hope Masonius, a former Bucknell guard and native of Spring Lake, New Jersey, through the transfer portal. The move marks the eighth addition to the Scarlet Knights’ roster this season.
A Local Talent Returns Home
Masonius redshirted her freshman year at Bucknell due to injury, but the extra year gave her time to develop both physically and mentally. In her sophomore season she averaged 2.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, figures that hint at a player still refining her role but already comfortable with high‑pressure competition.
Before college, she starred at Manasquan High School, guiding the team to two Group 2 state championships and surpassing the 1,000‑point milestone in her career. Those achievements cemented her reputation as one of New Jersey’s most accomplished prospects.
Head coach Gary Redus II has long emphasized the importance of retaining home‑grown talent, noting that players who understand the state’s competitive landscape can accelerate program growth. Masonius embodies that philosophy, offering both familiarity and a fresh perspective.
Looking Ahead
The Scarlet Knights hope the newcomer can deepen their guard rotation and provide additional depth as the schedule progresses. With the transfer window still open, Rutgers remains active in the portal market, seeking pieces that align with Redus’s vision for sustained success.
