From Pitch to Beat
Ruud Boymans once chased a ball across the pitches of the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Arab Emirates, leaving his mark at clubs such as Fortuna Sittard, VVV‑Venlo, AZ Alkmaar, NEC Nijmegen, Willem II, FC Utrecht and Al Shabab in Dubai. A serious head injury sustained while playing in Dubai forced him to confront a new direction, and the discipline honed on the field would later shape his approach to music.
A trip to Ibiza sparked a revelation: the island’s pulsating electronic scene convinced Boymans that his future lay beyond the penalty box. There he met Bora Güney, who introduced him to Oguzhan Güney and Jesse van der Heijden, the trio that would become the DJ duo ANOTR. The collaboration turned a casual fascination into a serious artistic pursuit.
The Birth of No Art
In 2017 Boymans, together with his new partners, launched No Art, a label and event platform that quickly grew from a local curiosity into a worldwide brand. Today the organization sells more than 350,000 tickets each year across fifteen countries, turning nightlife into a global experience.
ANOTR’s first album, *The Reset*, fused house rhythms with disco, funk, jazz and psychedelic textures, breaking the boundaries of the traditional club setting. The record’s eclectic sound helped the duo reach audiences far beyond the dance floor, influencing playlists and radio stations alike.
Viral Moments and Global Reach
The label’s reach is amplified by social media, especially TikTok, where short clips of tracks like ‘Talk to You’ have turned into viral moments. That song not only dominated streaming charts but also inspired a shoulder‑dance celebration by England defender John Stones, a clip that was later leveraged by Inter Milan to announce the player’s free‑agent status.
Beyond the beats, Boymans founded SONA, an event company that brings major international concerts to the Netherlands and beyond, and the No Art Foundation, which has donated more than $30,000 to community projects. These initiatives reflect a commitment to give back to the societies that inspired his career shift.
Looking Ahead
Now focused on music production, community building and occasional guest appearances, Boymans continues to bridge the worlds of sport and sound. His journey illustrates how a disciplined athlete can reinvent himself, using the same drive that once chased a ball to now chase a beat.
