Ryan Ahlum, a former Myers Park baseball standout, has been named the new head coach of the school’s varsity baseball program, stepping into the role after Erik Foor accepted an assistant position at Hough High School.
Ahlum’s journey to the top of the Mustangs’ dugout began on the fields of Myers Park, where he earned all‑conference honors and helped the team compile a 172‑41 record over the past nine seasons as associate head coach. After graduating in 2013, he spent a year at Division II Brevard before transferring to UNC Charlotte, where he completed a degree in Communication Studies.
His coaching résumé also includes twelve seasons leading travel baseball teams that captured multiple conference titles and deep playoff runs, experiences that have shaped his player‑first philosophy.

The transition marks a pivotal moment for the Mustangs, who have long been regarded as one of North Carolina’s premier high school baseball programs. With a culture rooted in discipline, teamwork and community pride, the team aims to maintain its competitive edge under Ahlum’s guidance.
