A Hostile Welcome in Bloomington
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day says the Buckeyes are bracing for one of the most intimidating road environments of the season when they travel to Memorial Stadium on Oct. 17. The atmosphere in Bloomington has been reshaped under new coach Curt Cignetti, who has turned the venue into a rallying point for the Hoosiers.
Cignetti’s tenure includes a perfect 15‑0 record at home, and the school has amplified the game‑day experience with rally towels and a full‑capacity crowd that arrives before kickoff. Day acknowledged that the changed environment will test his team’s composure.
Learning from Last Year’s Red Zone Stumble
A year ago the Buckeyes were held to a single touchdown in four red‑zone trips during the Big Ten title game loss to Indiana. The memory of that inefficiency lingers, and Day has made improving that area a priority for the rematch.
Quarterback Julian Sayin, who completed 72.4% of his passes against the Hoosiers but was sacked five times and threw an early interception, said the defense is well‑coached and effective at limiting big plays. He praised the work of Fernando Mendoza and the overall unit, noting that it was overlooked during Indiana’s title run.
A Young Receiver’s Resolve
Wideout Jeremiah Smith echoed the sentiment, stressing that the team must sharpen its red‑zone execution if it hopes to survive the hostile Bloomington setting. The upcoming clash will be a litmus test for both offense and defense.
