A Fresh Coaching Era
The Fruita Monument Wildcats boys basketball program is stepping into a new chapter as Ryan Engebretsen assumes the role of head coach. His appointment signals a continuation of the team's recent winning ways while introducing a fresh philosophy centered on depth and versatility.
Engebretsen arrives after six seasons as an assistant at Alaska Anchorage, where he helped shape a competitive program in a challenging environment. Before that, he spent a dozen years at Wasilla High School, guiding the Warriors to six conference championships and a 2018 state title, a testament to his ability to build sustained success.
The Wildcats have posted a 45‑6 record over the past three seasons, establishing themselves as a Western Slope powerhouse. Embracing a depth‑oriented approach, Engebretsen plans to rotate eight to ten players regularly, ensuring fresh legs and varied offensive looks while maintaining the high standards set by previous squads.
Community expectations run high, but the new coach appears undaunted. By leveraging his experience and emphasizing player development across the roster, he aims to keep the Wildcats at the forefront of regional basketball and to extend their recent dominance into the next season and beyond.
