A Freshman's Rise
Ryleigh Acosta, a freshman forward who joined Florida Gulf Coast University’s women’s soccer program this season, has quickly become a focal point of the team’s attack after finding the back of the net twice in her first collegiate appearance.
The goals came during a 4‑0 victory over Southern University, where Acosta converted a penalty kick and added an open‑play strike, marking her first ever goals at the college level and sparking a noticeable surge in confidence for both player and squad.
Acosta’s previous two seasons at the University of Florida were hampered by limited minutes and a dip in self‑assurance, a period she has now left behind as she embraces a more prominent role with the Eagles.
Coach’s Praise
Head coach Jim Blankenship highlighted Acosta’s hard work and high‑level play, noting that her performance not only restored her confidence but also provided a tangible boost to the team’s morale and offensive outlook.
With Acosta tied for the team lead in goals and the Eagles riding a positive momentum from recent wins over Southern and LSU, the coaching staff expects the freshman to continue shaping the attack as the schedule progresses.
