A Week of Milestones
Sabba Haghgoo, a junior forward for the High Point Panthers, was named the Big South Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the period spanning August 17 through August 23. The accolade recognized a series of performances that combined power, precision, and versatility on the attacking front.
The centerpiece of the week came on August 20, when Haghgoo erupted for a hat‑trick in a 4‑0 win over Marshall. Her first strike arrived in the 12th minute, a left‑footed effort that opened the scoring. Six minutes later she added a second goal after the opposing goalkeeper fumbled a clearance, allowing her to slot the ball into an open net. The third goal came in the 56th minute, a sliding shot from midfield that capped the offensive outburst.
Haghgoo’s efficiency was underscored by her shooting statistics. She converted four of five shots on goal against Marshall, a testament to her sharp finishing. Across the same match she attempted a total of eight shots, three of which found the back of the net. The following day she contributed to a 2‑2 draw with East Carolina, registering one on‑target effort among eight total attempts for the week.
Looking Ahead to the N.C. State Clash
The Panthers are set to face N.C. State University at Vert Stadium on August 27 at 7 p.m. The upcoming contest will test the momentum generated by Haghgoo’s recent form. Standing at 5'6" and entering her third year at High Point, the junior brings a blend of experience and youthful vigor to the lineup. Coach staff and teammates alike anticipate that her continued development could be a decisive factor as the season progresses.
