A strategic reshaping of the Sabres' front office
The Buffalo Sabres announced a sweeping addition of six front‑office and development staff members on Tuesday, marking the first major personnel move of general manager Jarmo Kekalainen’s tenure with the club. The moves come as the organization seeks to reshape its player development pipeline and scouting reach ahead of the upcoming season.
Veteran forward Milan Lucic, best known for his physical brand of play during a long stint with the Boston Bruins, will transition into a pro scouting role. His deep familiarity with the NHL’s Western Conference and his reputation as a locker‑room presence are expected to add a new dimension to the Sabres’ talent evaluation efforts.
Tim Kennedy, a South Buffalo native and former NHL forward, has been tapped as director of player development. Kennedy’s roots in the region and his experience both on the ice and in community outreach are seen as a perfect fit for nurturing the next generation of Sabres prospects.
Stacy Roest, who previously contributed to the Tampa Bay Lightning’s player personnel department, will serve simultaneously as director of player personnel and general manager of the Rochester Americans, the Sabres’ AHL affiliate. Her dual responsibilities are designed to create a clearer pathway between the professional roster and the team’s developmental club.
Neil Komadoski, a seasoned scout with a track record of identifying European talent, joins the Sabres as assistant director of pro scouting. His expertise is expected to broaden the team’s reach in the talent‑rich European market.
Jarko Ruutu, remembered by fans for a controversial bite on a Sabres enforcer in 2009, has been appointed European development coach. The role will leverage his connections across the continent to scout and mentor emerging players.
Derek Dorsett, a former NHL enforcer known for his gritty style, will take on the title of forward development coach. His hands‑on approach is geared toward refining the offensive skills and physicality of the Sabres’ younger forwards.
