The Buffalo Sabres added a new piece to their rebuilding roster on Friday, selecting forward Olivers Murnieks with the 101st overall pick in the fourth round of the NHL Draft.
A Player With International Experience
Standing at 6‑foot‑1 and weighing 192 pounds, the Latvian prospect spent the previous season with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League, where he contributed seven goals and 30 points over 31 games, while also logging 14 penalty minutes and finishing with a minus‑23 rating.
NHL Central Scouting placed him 98th among North American skaters, underscoring the confidence scouts have in his upside despite a challenging statistical year.
Murnieks has already represented Latvia at the World Junior Championship and the senior World Championship, and he has committed to enrolling at Boston College for the 2027‑28 season, where he will continue his development in a competitive collegiate environment.
The Sabres’ management described the selection as a strategic addition that brings size, work ethic and international exposure to the organization’s forward corps, positioning the player for a promising trajectory toward the professional ranks.
