The 2025‑2026 hockey season has become a catalyst for generosity in mid‑Michigan, as the Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation announced that its charitable efforts have topped $668,192 for local nonprofits.
Raising the Roof for Homelessness
A centerpiece of the campaign, Hockey for the Homeless Night, delivered $113,090 alone, contributing to a cumulative total of 26,000 nights of shelter provided to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Another highlight, the Shocks and Saves charity game, raised $52,730 to bolster heart‑health awareness and to fund the placement of automated external defibrillators across the region.
Across 36 home games, 50/50 drawings generated $204,830 for a variety of local charities, with an additional $28,650 contributed through cash donations.
The foundation also committed $15,000 in scholarships through the Huntington Youth Hockey Scholarship and the Memorial Cup Legacy Scholarship programs, supporting the next generation of players.
Specialty nights such as Go Gus Go have amplified awareness for Angelman syndrome, while First Responders Night and Superhero Night have bolstered the work of the CAN Council, expanding support for children’s health and safety.
Having marked 25 seasons of community partnership, the Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation continues to leverage the team’s platform to drive tangible improvements throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Looking Ahead to the 2026 Schedule
The action resumes with the 2026 preseason opener on August 28 against the Newfoundland Regiment of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, followed by the regular‑season debut on September 18 versus the Soo Greyhounds. The team’s first home game will be played on September 19 at the Dow Event Center against the Flint Firebirds.
