Saguaro High School’s Varsity Football Season Stalled by Injury Cancellations

Two games called off as the Sabercats struggle to field healthy players, though the season continues and a showdown with Mountain Ridge looms on Sept. 18.

Saguaro High School’s varsity football team has seen its schedule disrupted twice in recent weeks, with both the game against American Leadership Academy‑Queen Creek and the earlier rivalry matchup with Chaparral called off because the roster was too thin to safely field a full team.

Injury Crisis Forces Two Cancellations

The Sabercats have managed only a single contest this season, a 62‑0 loss to Desert Mountain on Aug. 28, and the absence of enough healthy athletes has forced the district to postpone the two scheduled games, underscoring the severity of the injury situation.

District officials emphasized that the season is far from over, assuring that the players will continue their recovery programs and that the team will aim to finish the year strong despite the setbacks.

With just 35 players total on the roster, Saguaro has been unable to field a freshman or junior varsity squad, a challenge that has limited depth across all levels and contributed to the cancellations.

The Sabercats are slated to host Mountain Ridge on Sept. 18, a rematch that will test whether the team can muster a competitive lineup after weeks of injury‑related adjustments.
