West arrived in Westwood after a standout tenure at James Madison University, where he earned Freshman of the Year honors in the Sun Belt Conference and helped the team to a 12‑2 record and a College Football Playoff appearance. At Mount Saint Joseph, he dominated as a junior, leading his division with ten sacks and collecting numerous accolades that marked him as a top defensive prospect.
Last season the Bruins’ defensive line struggled, recording just ten total sacks, a statistic that underscored the need for a transformative presence on the edge.
