The Saint Ansgar Saints are gearing up for the 2026 football season, looking to build on the momentum of a Class A state title game appearance that ended a remarkable run last year.
A New Chapter for the Saints
After the first week of practice, head coach Drew Clevenger praised the energy and cohesion he’s already seeing on the field, noting that the team’s work ethic is setting a strong tone.
The roster will feature fewer returning starters than in the championship year, but the team’s core in the trenches remains solid, anchored by senior lineman Mason Beland.
Beland, who has been a fixture on both sides of the ball, stressed that the Saints’ strength lies in collective execution, noting that eleven players doing their jobs well can make the team formidable.
Beyond the line, the coaching staff has identified a deep pool of playmakers who can shift momentum from any position, giving the offense versatility that opponents will have to respect.
Opening Test Against South Hamilton
The season will open at home against South Hamilton, a matchup that will serve as the first real gauge of the team’s chemistry and depth.
Coach Clevenger remains optimistic, highlighting that the foundation laid during practice gives the squad confidence as they head into the first week of competition.
Fans can expect a competitive debut, and the coaching staff believes that if the early games reflect the work done in the offseason, the Saints could once again contend for a state title.
