Saint Francis University’s football program is set for a historic shift as it moves from the Division I ranks to Division III, beginning an eight‑game schedule in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) for the 2026 season.
Under the guidance of head coach Chris Villarrial, the Red Wolves will open the campaign on Saturday, September 26, at home against Grove City, a team that closed the 2025 regular season on a seven‑game winning streak and secured an at‑large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Building on a winning tradition
The program boasts recent conference championships in 2016 and 2022, achievements that have cemented its reputation within the PAC and among its longtime rivals.
The 2026 slate includes matchups against Hiram and Case Western Reserve in Ohio, a homecoming clash with St. Vincent on October 17, and a Halloween night game against Bethany College in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
The season will culminate with a road test at Washington & Jefferson on November 7, the defending PAC champions who finished last year unbeaten in conference play with a high‑scoring offense.
Coach Villarrial praised the collaborative effort that made the transition possible, highlighting the dedication of his staff, the talent of incoming recruits and transfer students, and the unwavering support of the university community.
While the team will not be eligible for postseason competition in its inaugural Division III year, Villarrial remains optimistic that the schedule will provide valuable experience and reinforce the program’s commitment to excellence.
