The 2026 Saint John's University baseball squad was honored with the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, a distinction that underscores the program’s commitment to scholarly achievement as well as athletic competition.
Academic Honor
To qualify, a program must maintain a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0, and the Johnnies posted a collective 3.61 across their 56-player roster, placing them among the nation’s top academic teams.
The award was presented by Sports Attack on Wednesday, July 22, highlighting the university’s blend of classroom rigor and on‑field success.
Season Milestones
Competively, the team secured third place in the MIAC with a 13‑7 record, extending a streak of 16 consecutive tournament appearances that began under the guidance of new head coach Scott Lieser.
Lieser, in his inaugural season, has already cemented his place in the program’s recent history, steering the Johnnies through a campaign that blended youthful talent with seasoned leadership.
The accolade not only celebrates the team’s scholarly performance but also reinforces a campus culture that prizes excellence in the classroom as much as on the diamond.
