Montana's high school soccer scene is buzzing after Saira Mehmood, a junior forward at Gallatin High School, was honored as the state's Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year. The award celebrates not only her on‑field dominance but also her leadership and community involvement.
A season of brilliance
During the fall campaign she recorded 20 goals and 11 assists, numbers that helped the Raptors secure a spot in the Class AA state championship match. In the semifinals she found the net five times in an 8‑1 victory over Bozeman High, a performance that caught the eye of rival coaches.
Off the field
Mehmood balances athletics with a full plate of extracurriculars. As Junior Class president of the Gallatin High School Student Council she organizes school events, while her volunteer work spans the Environmental Club, Key Club, Sacks Thrift Store, the Museum of the Rockies, and youth soccer coaching.
Classroom excellence
The junior maintains a weighted GPA of 4.14, underscoring her commitment to academics. Her coach, Erika Cannon of Bozeman High School, has repeatedly praised Mehmood's work ethic, tactical intelligence and sportsmanship.
Looking ahead
With her senior year on the horizon, Mehmood plans to continue her soccer career at the collegiate level while pursuing studies in environmental science. The combination of athletic prowess, academic rigor and community service positions her as a role model for aspiring athletes across the state.
