Double Signing Bolsters Cowboys Ahead of Crucial Stretch
Sal Diaz and Chris McLean, former standouts for the SUNY Canton Roos, have officially joined the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League, signing professional contracts that mark the next chapter of their baseball careers.
Diaz arrives with a strong early performance, batting .323 and slugging .661 over 20 games, while also contributing seven doubles that tie him for the team lead and ranking second on the club with four home runs.
McLean, meanwhile, is slated to play a pivotal reserve role and is expected to make his professional debut soon, having concluded his college season with a .308 average, 31 runs, five sacrifice flies and 25 RBIs.
The Cowboys are currently 19‑11 and sit atop the Mountain South Division, a position they have held after a 16‑5 run since June 4, underscoring the impact of the new signings on the club’s momentum.
Coach Ryan Stevens praised both players for their hard work and for representing the Roos program with distinction, noting the recent accolades that have followed Diaz, including D3baseball.com First Team All‑Region, American Baseball Coaches Association Second Team All‑Region and SUNYAC First Team All‑Conference honors, as well as weekly national recognitions.
