A Day of Competition and Connection
On Saturday, the Salvation Army hosted its annual basketball tournament at Onondaga Community College, turning the campus gym into a lively arena for 3×3 matches that welcomed participants of every age.
The competition was bolstered by a coalition of community partners, including The Hayner Hoyt Corporation, Feldmeier Equipment and One Orange Alliance, each contributing to the event’s organization and outreach.
Community Support Drives the Event
Sidney Germinio, Executive Director of Community Services at the Salvation Army, said the tournament underscores the organization’s commitment to reinvesting every dollar back into local programs that benefit families across the region.
Members of the Syracuse University basketball team attended for several hours, using the occasion to connect with players and fans, offering tips and sharing their own love of the game.
All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will be funneled directly into community initiatives, from youth sports leagues to social services, ensuring the impact of the day extends far beyond the final buzzer.
