A Hall of Fame Celebration
The University of Wisconsin announced recently that Sam Dekker, a cornerstone of the Badgers' resurgence in the early 2010s, will be enshrined in its Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. The honor places him among a select group of alumni whose contributions have shaped the program's rich basketball tradition.
Dekker's collegiate journey began in the 2012‑13 season, immediately after a standout prep career at Sheboygan Lutheran High School where he earned Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year honors. During his three‑year tenure, he helped the Badgers capture a Big Ten regular‑season title and advance to the national semifinals in 2014, a run highlighted by a 27‑point performance in the Elite Eight against Arizona.
His sophomore year earned him a spot on the Second Team All‑Big Ten, and in 2015 he was recognized as the NCAA West Region's Most Outstanding Player after delivering a career‑high 27 points against Arizona. Dekker capped his college career with a 16‑point effort against Kentucky that secured a berth in the championship game, before declaring for the 2015 NBA Draft.
Beyond the statistics — 1,363 points, which rank 15th all‑time in Wisconsin history — Dekker's influence extended to the culture of the program. He joins an illustrious group of inductees that includes Frank Kaminsky, Marcus Sedberry, and longtime coach Bo Ryan, underscoring the program's tradition of producing both NBA talent and leaders who shape the sport's future.
