Sam Fischer, a sophomore forward from Longwood University, has been crowned the Big South Preseason Forward of the Year, marking the third occasion the school has earned the honor in that category, previously in 2019 and 2014.
During the 2022–23 season, Fischer led the Lancers with seven goals and 16 points, earning both Big South Freshman of the Year and a spot on the first‑team all‑league squad.
Preseason Poll Outlook
Coaches placed High Point University first with 76 points and seven first‑place votes, followed by Radford University in second with 69 points and a single vote. Longwood climbed to third with 63 points, edging out USC Upstate in fourth.
The poll also listed Charleston Southern in fifth, Winthrop sixth, UNC Asheville seventh, and Gardner‑Webb eighth, while Presbyterian rounded out the rankings in ninth.
Longwood’s next contest arrives on Saturday at 6 p.m. against William & Mary, before the regular season opens on Thursday, August 13, with a home game versus Campbell streamed on ESPN+.
With the conference poised for an August kickoff, expectations are high for Fischer and the Lancers as they aim to translate preseason optimism into on‑field success.
