Sam Leavitt, a highly rated transfer portal quarterback, arrived at Louisiana State University after two productive seasons at Arizona State where he amassed 4,513 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.
During his ASU tenure he also added 749 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground, completing 61.3% of his throws while throwing nine interceptions.
A Playoff Run and a Fresh Challenge
Leavitt helped the Sun Devils clinch their first College Football Playoff berth in 2024, guiding them to an 11‑3 record and earning Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors.
The team fell to Texas in double overtime, but Leavitt’s 222‑yard effort in the fourth quarter showcased his ability to rally under pressure.
After the season he underwent foot surgery for a Lisfranc injury, missing most of LSU’s spring practices, yet he was cleared for summer player‑led workouts and conditioning.
At LSU’s annual The Huddle on July 30, Leavitt spoke publicly about his move, citing a desire for a new challenge and noting that the program’s practice structure and coaching approach felt distinct from what he experienced in Tempe.
He highlighted the opportunity to compete alongside high‑caliber teammates such as Whit Weeks and Ty Benefield, and he praised the staff’s vision, mentioning Kiffin as a figure whose influence he admires.
