A Scholar‑Athlete’s Dual Triumph
Samantha Heyman, a senior at Half Hollow Hills High School, was recently crowned the James Conrad Metzger Top Scholar‑Athlete, an honor that celebrates the pinnacle of athletic achievement paired with academic excellence.
On the flag football field, Heyman compiled a career that few can match, throwing for 12,898 yards and 197 touchdowns while also rushing for 4,192 yards and 52 scores, a testament to her versatility and relentless drive.
Her academic record is equally impressive; she carries a 98 unweighted GPA and earned a perfect 36 on the ACT, credentials that have made her a standout candidate for top universities.
Beyond statistics, Heyman’s leadership was evident when she guided her team to an undefeated season and a state championship, a feat that earned her first‑team All‑Long Island honors for four consecutive years.
At a recent awards brunch hosted by the National Football Foundation’s Suffolk County Chapter, the organization also recognized its Golden Seven, highlighting a new generation of scholars who excel both in sport and service.
During the ceremony, James Conrad Metzger, a former standout athlete and Hills East alumnus, took the stage to applaud Heyman’s contributions, underscoring the lasting impact of mentorship across generations.
Looking ahead, Heyman will enroll at the University of Texas at Austin this fall, where she plans to continue balancing rigorous academics with community outreach through her role as a student ambassador for the Limb Kind Foundation, an organization that provides prosthetics to children in need around the world.
