The 2026 Express-News Baseball All-Area Team has become a focal point for high school baseball enthusiasts across San Antonio, spotlighting the region’s most dynamic talents.

Player of the Year: Samuel Kennedy
Samuel Kennedy of Churchill High School was crowned Player of the Year after posting a .505 batting average, 48 hits, 31 runs, 31 RBIs and six home runs at the plate, while going 7‑1 on the mound with a 1.68 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 58 ⅓ innings.
Coach of the Year: Edward Ruiz
Edward Ruiz, who leads the Jourdanton Indians, earned Coach of the Year honors for guiding his team to the University Interscholastic League state tournament for the first time, making Jourdanton the only Greater San Antonio program to reach that stage.
Newcomer Spotlight: Noah Vrzal
Freshman Noah Vrzal of Sotomayor was named Newcomer of the Year, having posted a 7‑1 record, a 0.686 ERA, 72 strikeouts and a .354 batting average across 51 innings pitched.
Other standout performers include Barrett Fallon from Davenport, who hit for the cycle in a playoff series and finished the year with a .413 average, 50 hits, 36 RBIs and 58 runs, and Aiden Shreve of Pieper, whose 114 strikeouts in 57 ⅓ innings yielded a 1.34 ERA and limited opponents to a .152 batting average.
The All‑Area teams are organized by class — Class 6A, Class 5A and Sub‑5A/Private Schools — ensuring that the diverse competitive landscape of Texas high school baseball is represented, and that postseason achievements continue to shape the selections.
