Santa Fe College is moving forward on a major upgrade to its athletic complex with the construction of the Hitchcock Family Clubhouse, a facility made possible by a generous gift from Alan Hitchcock and his family’s charity foundation.
The clubhouse, slated to open in spring 2027, will house locker rooms, showers, laundry facilities and covered batting cages, offering a permanent home for the college’s baseball and softball teams.
For years, players have been forced to change in their cars because the campus lacked adequate locker rooms, a situation that Gavin Jones described as uncomfortable, especially when passing drivers looked on.
McKenna O’Sullivan, a sophomore on the softball team, says the new building will foster stronger team chemistry and make recruiting easier, as athletes will finally have a dedicated space to gather and prepare.
A New Chapter for Santa Fe Athletics
Santa Fe President Paul Broadie expressed gratitude to the Hitchcock family, emphasizing that their investment reflects a commitment to enhancing the student‑athlete experience and the broader Gainesville community.
Alan Hitchcock reiterated his support for the college, noting that the project creates opportunities for young athletes and reinforces the institution’s role as a hub for community development.
The transformation of the ball fields into a five‑phase athletic complex underscores the college’s long‑term vision, blending state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure with a focus on student success and community engagement.
