A Memorial Game With Purpose
The second Santa Gertrudis Memorial Alumni Baseball Game took place on a sunny Saturday in Kingsville, Texas, drawing alumni, current players and families together in a celebration of community and resilience.
The event was held in memory of JJ Falcon, a youngster who lost his battle with Osteosarcoma on August 27, 2023, and whose legacy now lives on through the charity work of his family.
Josiah Leal, a current childhood cancer patient, threw out the ceremonial first pitch, while 5‑year‑old Paisley Rabe, who recently completed treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, cheered from the stands, embodying the hope the game seeks to inspire.
Raising Funds for Scholarships and Families
Proceeds from ticket sales, concessions and donations are earmarked for scholarships that ease the financial burden on families fighting cancer, as well as for direct support to households navigating treatment costs.
Cathy Falcon, JJ’s mother, emphasized that keeping her son’s memory alive is inseparable from the nonprofit’s mission, noting that every dollar raised fuels the ongoing effort to help other families confront the same hardships they once faced.
The Falcon family’s nonprofit, Family Fields of Hopes and Dreams, continues to provide resources and comfort to families battling childhood cancer, turning personal tragedy into a broader movement of support.
