Former head coach Carlos Woods was suspended for the preseason game before he was ultimately dismissed, adding early turmoil to the team’s timeline.
Rebuilding under new leadership
Lance Hoeltke, a former USF quarterback, was hired on July 29, 2024 to steer the program through a wave of transfers that saw key players such as Mason Summer and Maleek Lee move elsewhere.
Among those who left, three‑star defensive back Jordan Booker elected to transfer to Venice High School, a move that bolsters the opposing team’s defense and adds a narrative subplot to the upcoming season.
The cumulative effect of roster instability forced Booker to cancel four scheduled games for the 2026 season, including matches against Manatee, Palmetto, St. John’s College in Washington, D.C., and Venice, though no official rationale has been disclosed.
With the sanctions, probation and a reshaped roster, the program now faces a critical test of resilience as it attempts to rebuild its schedule and competitive standing.
