Savannah Bananas Bring Baseball Cards to Knoxville

Knox News partners with the touring team to hand out limited-edition cards at games and local spots

Bananas Bring a Playful Twist to Knoxville's Baseball Scene

The Savannah Bananas, the spirited exhibition team known for its high‑energy “Banana Ball” games, are making a stop in Knoxville this week, bringing a splash of color and competition to the city’s sports calendar.

In partnership with Knox News, the club is commemorating the visit with a limited run of three uniquely designed baseball cards, each spotlighting a different facet of the Banana Ball experience.

Cards That Capture the Banana Ball Spirit

The red card features Maceo Harrison, the team’s “Dancing First Base Coach,” whose moves have become a fan favorite. The orange card offers an aerial view of the Tennessee football field transformed into a Banana Ball diamond, while the green card showcases the franchise’s beloved mascot, Split.

Each card includes a QR code that unlocks a collection of photos, videos and behind‑the‑scenes stories from the Bananas’ tour, giving supporters a digital window into the action.

Distribution of the cards will be handled by Knox News intern Trevor McGee, who will be on hand at Covenant Health Park on May 21. Later in the week, Knox News journalists will hand out cards at Neyland Stadium on May 23. Starting May 21, the cards will also be available at a handful of local businesses that have embraced the Bananas’ playful brand.

Participating venues include Cruze Farm, Disco Chicken, Fred’s Around the Corner, Old City Sports Bar and Red Panda Grocery, each offering fans a chance to snag a card while enjoying their favorite local fare.

Ryan Wilusz, a Knox News reporter covering the event, noted that the initiative blends community engagement with the team’s signature entertainment, aiming to turn a simple card exchange into a shared experience across the city.
