Scheraun King Takes the Helm of North Augusta Girls Basketball

Former Heritage Coach Brings Global Experience and Classroom Insight

North Augusta has named Scheraun King as the new head coach of the Yellow Jackets girls basketball team, tapping a coach whose career spans continents and classrooms.

A Strategic Choice for the Yellow Jackets

King succeeds Al Young, who retired after guiding the program to seven South Carolina High School League state titles in the past decade, leaving behind a legacy of sustained excellence.

Casey Crane, the school’s athletic director, praised King as the clear frontrunner for the role, citing his blend of coaching acumen and academic expertise.

Before arriving at North Augusta, King led the Heritage High School boys basketball team for three seasons, compiling a 28‑53 record while also serving as a math teacher.

His playing days at Curtis High School in Staten Island, New York, and at Albany State University laid a foundation that he later expanded overseas, professional stints in Italy, Bolivia and Mexico sharpening his tactical outlook.

After a graduate assistantship at Albany State and a stint coaching middle‑school girls basketball in Atlanta, King returned to the classroom, where he now teaches math while shaping the next generation of athletes.

Emphasizing Grit and Growth

King says his philosophy centers on toughness, relentless effort and high energy, qualities he believes will keep the Yellow Jackets competitive both on the hardwood and in the community.

He aims to build on the program’s recent dominance, leveraging the school’s strong tradition while instilling a culture of continuous improvement.
