Scholarships for Youth Baseball Linked to Cancer Awareness

Danny Berry’s Academy partners with the Drew Gross Forever Foundation to fund training and promote early colorectal screening

Danny Berry’s Baseball Academy is set to award scholarships for the fall 2026 season, expanding access to its youth baseball program for children aged three to eight.

The initiative is made possible by the Drew Gross Forever Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting children’s sports participation and raising awareness of colorectal cancer.

A Mission Rooted in Personal Legacy

The foundation was inspired by the memory of Drew Gross, a volunteer coach and nephew of Danny Berry, who lost his battle with colorectal cancer at the age of fifty‑one. His story fuels the group’s dual focus on youth athletics and early disease detection.

According to the foundation’s website, early screening is recommended beginning at age forty‑five, with particular encouragement for individuals who have a family history or other risk factors.

From August 17 through December 12, the academy holds weekly coaching sessions at Continental Park, located at 10000 SW 82nd Avenue in Kendall, Florida. The curriculum emphasizes fundamental skills such as throwing, catching and batting, delivered in a safe, supportive environment.

The program’s schedule culminates in a series of camps that run through early December, offering participants a full season of development and competition.

Fundraising Through Community Events

In addition to scholarships, the foundation organizes an annual golf tournament scheduled for December 7, 2026, at The Club at Weston Hills. The event serves both as a fundraiser and a platform for promoting cancer screening within the broader community.

Beyond the golf outing, the academy provides year‑round clinics and camps that continue to nurture young talent, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to both sport and health advocacy.

By intertwining athletic opportunity with a public health message, the partnership seeks to create a lasting impact on families across South Florida, encouraging early detection while fostering a love of baseball among the youngest players.
