A school bus carrying members of the Douglas Byrd High School football team overturned on an exit ramp in Leland, North Carolina, early this week, after the driver, Annette Blount, allegedly exceeded the posted speed limit.

The bus, operated by Cumberland County Schools, was returning from a football matchup at South Brunswick High School when it entered the northbound U.S. 17 to westbound U.S. 74 interchange at a speed above the legal limit, causing it to tip over.
Thirty‑three occupants were on board, comprising 26 students and seven adults; four individuals — two students and two adults — were transported to a hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries.
Cumberland County Schools confirmed that all students and staff had been discharged, though one adult employee remained under medical observation as a precaution.
Leland police indicated that the crash investigation remains active, with charges of reckless driving and exceeding a safe speed pending against Blount.
