The Toledo Walleye announced the addition of forward Scott Docherty ahead of the 2026‑27 ECHL season, a move that bolsters the club’s depth and adds a seasoned presence to the lineup.
A Fresh Face for the Walleye
Docherty arrives after a stint that saw him split time between the South Carolina Stingrays and the Columbus River Dragons in the FPHL, as well as a lone appearance for the Hazelton Wolverines in the CIHL. His versatility was on display during the 2025‑26 campaign, where he recorded an assist and logged 31 penalty minutes across 12 games with the Stingrays, while contributing 11 points — two goals and nine assists — with 22 penalty minutes in 21 outings for the River Dragons.
The forward’s debut in American professional hockey came with the River Dragons during the 2024‑25 season, a period in which he tallied 16 points — eight goals and eight assists — along with 103 penalty minutes and a plus‑9 rating over 47 games. That production built upon a three‑year collegiate career at SUNY‑Cortland, where he posted 10 points and 29 penalty minutes in 43 games.
Beyond the ECHL, Docherty has accumulated a solid track record in the CIHL, notching 33 points — 12 goals and 21 assists — and 50 penalty minutes in 19 appearances for the Hazelton Wolverines across parts of three seasons. His blend of offensive touch and physical play should provide the Walleye with a reliable option on the second and third lines.
General manager Chris McDonald highlighted the signing, noting that Docherty’s experience in high‑pressure environments and his willingness to engage in the defensive side of the game align with the team’s philosophy. The organization looks forward to seeing how the forward integrates with returning veterans and prospects alike as training camp approaches.
