The Coachella Valley Firebirds announced this week that Scott Ford, a veteran coach with deep roots in professional hockey, has been added to their staff as an assistant coach. The move comes as the franchise prepares for its inaugural season, set to open on October 2 against the Ontario Reign.
Ford arrives after a decade‑long journey through the American Hockey League and the National Hockey League. His most recent role was with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he contributed to the team's defensive schemes and player development programs.
Prior to that, he served as an assistant with the Milwaukee Admirals and the Chicago Wolves, experiences that culminated in three Central Division titles and six Calder Cup appearances. He began his coaching career in 2015, shortly after hanging up his skates from a 522‑game AHL playing stint.
A native of Fort St. John, British Columbia, Ford brings a blend of Western Canadian grit and East Coast professionalism to the desert team. His background includes stints in the ECHL, where he recorded 21 goals and 58 points in 162 games, before transitioning fully to coaching.
