Scott Heath, a Westbrook native, has been honored as the NCAA Division III Region II coach of the year after guiding the University of Southern Maine to its first Little East Conference title and an NCAA tournament berth in five years.
A season of transformation
In his second season at the helm, Heath steered the Huskies to a 32‑12 record, a 12‑win jump from his debut campaign, and captured both the Little East regular‑season and tournament championships.
The team fell just short of the regional championship, losing in the final game of its NCAA regional, but the run marked a dramatic turnaround for a program that had not reached the tournament since 2019.
Recognition from the coaches' association
The American Baseball Coaches Association presented the award, citing Heath’s strategic acumen and the rapid ascent of the program under his guidance.
Heath, who compiled a 52‑31 record over his first two years, expressed gratitude for the players and staff, emphasizing that the accolade reflects a collective effort rather than individual triumph.
