Laughton’s Deal Locks In Experience for the Kings
The Los Angeles Kings announced on Tuesday that forward Scott Laughton has agreed to a three‑year contract extension worth $3.5 million per season, keeping the veteran through the 2028‑29 campaign.
Laughton, 32, joined the Kings after being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 6, 2025, and immediately made an impact, scoring in his debut on March 7 against Montreal and adding a two‑point effort the following night versus Columbus.
His early success continued as he became the fifth player since 1999‑00 to register a point in each of his first two games with the franchise, underscoring the immediate value of his addition.
Across 21 regular‑season appearances for Los Angeles, Laughton contributed five goals and eight points, while his career totals stand at 121 goals and 289 points over 745 NHL games spanning parts of 13 seasons with the Kings, Maple Leafs and Flyers.
Drafted 20th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2012, Laughton has evolved into a reliable two‑way forward, noted for his 12 shorthanded goals, 1,440 hits and 430 blocked shots, statistics that rank among the most productive of his draft class.
Internationally, the Oakville, Ontario native has represented Canada at three IIHF tournaments, capturing gold at the 2023 Men’s World Championship and the 2012 Under‑18 World Junior Championship, experiences that add a championship pedigree to his résumé.
General manager Rob Blake praised the extension, stating that Laughton’s blend of skill, toughness and playoff experience will be pivotal as the Kings aim to contend for the Stanley Cup in the coming years.
