A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Roster
Scott Padgett, a former Kentucky standout who contributed 17 points in the Wildcats' 1998 NCAA Championship game, will serve as an assistant coach for Marshall's men's basketball program beginning with the 2026‑27 season. His career spans head coaching stints at Samford and assistant roles at Mississippi State, Manhattan, New Mexico and Kentucky, where he helped elevate offensive efficiency and mentored numerous NBA prospects.
Cornelius Jackson, Marshall's head coach, emphasized Padgett's blend of playing experience and coaching acumen, noting that his leadership will reinforce the program's competitive edge. Padgett's John Wooden and Associated Press All‑American honors from 1999, coupled with a seven‑year NBA career after being drafted by the Utah Jazz, underscore the depth of expertise he brings to the staff.
In addition to Padgett, former Marshall standout Robby Williams is returning to the university as a graduate assistant. Williams previously contributed to Link Academy in Missouri, where he honed his coaching skills while maintaining ties to the local basketball community.
