Scottie Newton, a sophomore defender for Middle Tennessee State University, was recognized as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after delivering a series of commanding displays to start the season.
Her contributions helped the Blue Raiders post two consecutive clean sheets, a feat not achieved by the program since 2015, and she even added a well‑placed header assist that set up the team’s second goal against Southern Indiana.
