The University of Southern Indiana’s Screaming Eagles opened the Ohio Valley Baseball Championship with a 6-2 win over Morehead State on Tuesday night in Marion, Illinois.
Weller’s Masterclass
Right-hander Ryan Weller turned in a seven‑inning performance, allowing just two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven.
USI struck first in the bottom of the first, when Micajah Wall crossed the plate with a run that put the Eagles ahead 1-0.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the second inning after Zion Stephens and Hunter Miller each added RBI singles, capping a two‑run burst.
Morehead State narrowed the gap in the third and fourth frames, scoring twice to make it 3-2, but the Eagles answered back in the sixth with a three‑run outburst.
Noah Foster’s two‑run home run sparked the rally, and the team added another run to extend the lead to 6-2.
Trey O’Neil closed out the game with two scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and fanning three batters.
Looking Ahead
The Screaming Eagles will next face the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, a program that leads the all‑time series 9-4. Little Rock’s early dominance adds extra intrigue to the upcoming matchup.
