The Bishop Seabury Academy girls soccer team saw its historic campaign come to an end on Thursday, falling 5‑1 to Bishop Miege in the state quarterfinals. The Seahawks finished the season with a 14‑4 record, marking their first appearance in the 4‑1A state quarterfinals and securing the Kaw Valley League Championship for the first time in program history.
A Season Defined by Firsts
Key defenders Xeva Oldridge and Sydney Walter will graduate this spring, leaving behind a legacy that head coach Ivo Ivanov described as a blueprint for future success. Assistant coach Will Whipple praised the squad’s work ethic, noting that the team’s achievements were built on collective effort rather than individual brilliance.
The match itself unfolded with Bishop Miege controlling possession from the outset and striking early. Sophie Borroto‑Novick opened the scoring for Seabury in the first half, but Paige Jackson of Bishop Miege answered with two goals to swing momentum. Goalkeeper Amelia Rozzi made several key saves to keep the Seahawks within striking distance, while midfielder Izzie Kamer orchestrated play in the midfield.
Despite the final score, the team created numerous chances, with players such as Presley Peterson, Izzy Gonzalez and Gaby Calderon contributing to the attack. Coach Whipple emphasized that the experience gained will be invaluable for a roster that returns mostly intact, giving the program a strong foundation for the next season.
Looking ahead, the Seahawks are optimistic about maintaining their competitive edge. With most of the lineup set to return, the club aims to build on the lessons learned and continue chasing championships in the coming years.
