Sean Allen, the longtime pitching coach of the USC Trojans, has accepted a new role as head coach of Lamar University, but his departure will not happen until after the current postseason.
Allen’s imprint on the Trojans’ staff has been evident in the way the staff has guided a rotation that has turned heads across the nation, with standout performances from Mason Edwards, Andrew Johnson and Grant Govel.
Edwards boasts a 1.85 ERA and is averaging 15.9 strikeouts per nine innings, while Johnson recently threw 124 pitches over 7.1 innings against Texas A&M and Govel contributed four solid innings with four strikeouts in his own right.
The Trojans have surged through the College Station Regional with four straight wins, including two victories over the host Texas A&M Aggies, positioning them as a formidable contender heading into the Super Regionals.
Next up, USC will meet the North Carolina Tar Heels, the team that oddsmakers have pegged as the favorite to capture the College World Series title.
Andy Stankiewicz, USC’s head coach, praised Allen’s influence, noting that the coach’s strategic adjustments have helped the staff thrive under pressure.
