Sean Dunlap, a 6‑foot‑3, 205‑pound catcher from Crown Point, Indiana, announced on social media that he is withdrawing from the 2026 MLB Draft.
The decision comes after the draft’s opening ten rounds passed without a selection, leaving the nation’s No. 2 catcher and No. 38 overall recruit unchosen as teams moved on to later rounds.
A Calculated Decision
Rather than waiting for a late‑round pick, Dunlap has elected to honor his November 2024 commitment to the University of Tennessee, a program he has long admired.
Ranked as the No. 2 catcher and No. 38 overall recruit by Perfect Game, and No. 124 overall by MLB Pipeline, Dunlap also earned accolades as the 2026 Indiana player of the year from Prep Baseball Report and MaxPreps, and was named the Chicago Post‑Tribune’s area player of the year.
During his senior season at Crown Point, he batted .473, drove in 45 runs, hit nine home runs and added nine doubles and three triples, cementing his reputation as one of the state’s most prolific hitters.
