UMBC head coach Jim Ferry revealed the newest member of his coaching roster this week, bringing aboard Sean Neal as an assistant coach. The move is being hailed as a boost for a program that continues to build momentum in the highly competitive America East landscape.
Neal arrives after a four‑year stint as associate head coach at St. Bonaventure, where he helped steer the team to three 20‑plus win seasons and captured both the Atlantic 10 regular‑season and tournament titles during the 2020‑21 campaign. His contributions were strong enough to earn him a spot among the nation’s top assistants, a recognition highlighted by Silver Waves Media at the 2025 Final Four in San Antonio.
Before his tenure at St. Bonaventure, Neal honed his craft under Dr. John Giannini at La Salle University and earlier worked with Rob Kennedy at The Hoop Group in Neptune, New Jersey. As a player, he wore the La Salle jersey from 2003 to 2007, later completing a bachelor’s degree in political science and an MBA, both earned from the same institution.
