Seattle Thunderbirds Secure Future Star in Cooper Soller Trade

The acquisition of the Los Angeles-born prospect adds depth ahead of the 2029 WHL season

The Seattle Thunderbirds announced a deal that brings forward Cooper Soller into the organization, acquiring his rights from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for a sixth-round selection in the 2029 WHL Prospects Draft.

A promising addition to the Thunderbirds roster

Soller, a 2008-born center originally from Los Angeles, was chosen by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. His development continued in the USHL, where he spent the most recent season with the Sioux Falls Stampede.

During that campaign he recorded 49 points, including 26 goals, across 62 games and was recognized as the league’s Rookie of the Year. The performance helped the Stampede capture the Clark Cup, underscoring his impact on a championship‑contending team.

General Manager Bil LaForge praised Soller’s skill set and upside, noting that the forward’s blend of size, work ethic and offensive instincts aligns with the Thunderbirds’ long‑term vision.

Before reaching the WHL, Soller honed his game in the Los Angeles Jr. Kings system and spent three seasons at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota. He now has a verbal commitment to Western Michigan University for the 2028‑29 academic year, a path that could further refine his abilities before stepping onto the professional stage.
