The New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s flag football state tournament still features three Section 1 programs after a weekend of regional finals that saw several local squads punch their tickets to the championship stage.
Regional Finals Recap
Penfield edged Union-Endicott 25-6 in the Class A regional final, while Shaker routed Syracuse East 32-7 and Half Hollow Hills East downed Herricks 27-7. In Class B, Fayetteville-Manlius shut out Columbia 26-0, and in Class C Pioneer blanked Susquehanna Valley 20-0.
State Semifinals and Championship Schedule
Semifinal matchups will be played on June 6, with Class A and B games at Homer High School and the Class C semifinal at Cortland High School. The following day, June 7, will host the title contests at Homer High School for Classes A and B, while the Class C championship also takes place at the same venue.
Upcoming semifinal pairings include a June 2 evening clash between Mamaroneck and Middletown at 7:30 p.m. on Goshen High School’s field, and a June 2 late‑afternoon contest pitting Yorktown against Washingtonville at 6 p.m. on the same site. A third semifinal on June 2 at 4:30 p.m. will see Westlake/Briarcliff take on Rhinebeck.
The tournament’s momentum reflects the competitive depth of Section 1, whose remaining teams will now vie for state titles across three divisions, concluding a season that has drawn considerable attention from local fans and coaches.
