Literary Voices Take the Stage
The Selected Shorts radio show and podcast is set to make a live return to the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton, bringing its signature blend of storytelling to the stage for an evening titled "Love, Life and Baseball".
The event will be hosted by novelist Meg Wolitzer, whose New York Times bestselling novels and role as co‑director of BookEnds have made her a familiar voice in contemporary literature.
Performers include veteran actor Joe Morton, Broadway standout Katrina Lenk, and screen‑and‑stage veteran Mike Doyle. Each will animate short fiction by celebrated authors Dave Eggers, Alice McDermott and Steven Millhauser, turning concise narratives into vivid theatrical moments.
Morton, an Emmy‑award‑winning presence across television, film and stage, joins Lenk, a Broadway alumna celebrated for her award‑laden performances, and Doyle, whose extensive TV and film résumé includes directing feature films, to breathe life into the selected stories.
Selected Shorts, produced by Symphony Space in New York City, has long been a weekly public radio staple, pairing acclaimed actors with concise works of fiction. Its live events, such as this one, extend the series’ reach beyond the airwaves to intimate theater audiences.
The collaboration underscores the cross‑pollination of literary and performing arts, offering listeners and theatergoers alike a chance to experience the narrative craft of Eggers, McDermott and Millhauser in a live, interpretive setting.
