A New Era for the Linebackers
Ernie Sims, a former Seminoles standout, has been elevated to linebackers coach this offseason, bringing his playing experience to the staff.
The position group is being reshaped with experienced transfers Chris Jones and Mikai Gbayor joining the roster, alongside high school standouts Izayia Williams and Karon Maycock.
Veteran returners Omar Graham Jr. and Blake Nichelson will anchor the unit, providing continuity as the team integrates new talent.
Among the prospects the Seminoles are courting is Israel Samuel, a three‑star linebacker from Texas who has already amassed nearly 20 offers from programs such as Texas, Oregon, Alabama and Oklahoma.
Samuel, a sophomore at Lake Highlands High School who earned an All‑District nod, is expected to take an official visit to Tallahassee this fall or early next year, a move that could solidify the class.
The 2028 class currently holds two verbal commitments and is ranked No. 7 nationally, a testament to the coaching staff’s recruiting momentum.
Recent commitments include Jernard Albright, Olrick Johnson III and CJ Ohuabunwa, while emerging talent Caleb LaVallee has also signaled his support for the program.
